Two things you might not know
- Mosander found it in 1839 as an impurity in cerium nitrate; hydrogen sponge alloys containing it can store up to 400 times their volume.
- Its name means to lie hidden; a 2008 Toyota Prius battery needed 10 to 15 kg of it, and it raises the refractive index of camera lenses.
